Certified copies, older files, records that do not appear online, and questions about sealed or restricted Kenton County court records go through the Kenton Circuit Court Clerk at the Justice Center.

Types of Kenton County Court Records

What Kenton County Court Records Show

Kenton County Court Records and Dockets
The public docket result is a calendar record. It can show search metadata, a status line, the "not official docket" warning, and a last-updated field. After a query, the visible docket detail may include case number, party name or caption, event or hearing type, time, courtroom, and judge. That is enough to track a hearing, but it is not the same as a full Kenton County court record.
For broader research, the full case record may include motions, orders, pleadings, probate inventories, divorce decrees, sentencing terms, and payment history. Public Access to Kenton County Court Records
Kentucky's open-records statutes shape access, but court case access still depends on court rules, portal limits, and clerk procedures. KRS 61.870 defines public records and includes booking photographs as a public-record concept. KRS 61.871 states that free and open examination of public records is in the public interest. KRS 61.878 lists exemptions that matter for private, juvenile, sealed, law-enforcement, and personal-information material.
Executive-branch county records, such as Fiscal Court records, use the Kenton County open-records request channel. Court records follow the Kentucky Court of Justice and clerk route. That split is important. A county open-records form is not the right first step for a certified criminal judgment, divorce decree, probate filing, or traffic case record.
Federal records are another separate channel. Federal crimes, federal civil suits, bankruptcy cases, and federal appeals do not appear as ordinary Kenton County Circuit or District Court records. Those files route through the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, the Sixth Circuit, and PACER. Restricted Kenton County Court Records

Eligible felony convictions may use KRS 431.073, and conviction expungement filings require eligibility certification under KRS 431.079. The clerk can confirm the case number and file location, but access to sealed material may require a court order.
Family and juvenile records require special care because the public docket may not reveal the reason a document is unavailable. A divorce case can have public docket entries while child-related, adoption, domestic-violence, or protected-address material is withheld. Probate records can also contain guardianship, conservatorship, mental-health, or medical information that is not treated like an ordinary civil complaint.
In-Person Kenton County Court Record Requests
The in-person fallback is the Circuit Court Clerk at the Kenton County Justice Center.
